Dream Ran Down

Tonight I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the Beacon Theatre.

It was majestic.

I’ve wanted to see a show at the Beacon since I watched Shine A Light, the Scorcese filmed Rolling Stones concert.  And I’ve wanted to see Tom Petty since 2009 when I missed him in Mansfield.  That was long before I became the incredibly passionate fan that I am today, but I still wanted to go.

The show was fantastic.  The best part was the love that is so evident between those guys.  It makes me so happy.  Also, this set list made me very happy:

Look at that.  Pretty great, right?

What I love about Tom is his simplicity and the fact that every song applies to my life in some context.  I can’t think of another artist that I can truly say every song of theirs can be applied to my life.  Maybe Jackson Browne, but I’m not sure I have anything in common with “Lawyers In Love.”

But Tom is the everyman.  He just gets it and has an impeccable way of relating that.
