Instrument Care

January 23, 2013

This is my PSA on taking care of your instruments.

I do not take great care of my guitars.  Good care?  Yes.  Absolutely.  Great care?  Ehh, no. I go through phases, but after the headache this bad habit has given Brian and me (and consequently the band), it’s time to make it permanent.

Guitars are finicky sometimes.  Or in my case, all the time.  My intonation’s off on both of my guitars because other than changing strings, neither one of them has received any true TLC since April of 2011.  I’m awful - I know.

I need to learn how to better take care of my guitars.  There are some important things about guitar maintenance that I’m unaware of.  I’ll still continue to have it setup by people who really know what they’re doing, but I should be able to do nominal things at home.

As should everyone regardless of their instrument.  Alex, the keys player in Canary, was tuning his Fender Rhodes the other day.  I didn’t know that you could do it yourself.

I’m going to go back to changing my strings weekly and giving my guitars the TLC they deserve.
