Music Licensing

March 4, 2013

Caught up on my March quota.  I’ll post later today to really be caught up. It’s 1:30 in the morning.

My current project is licensing some Canary songs.  License, get some placements, same thing.  It’s exciting.  It’s a lot of work but the payoff will be fantastic once we have something.

I know it was around long before (the Who did a whole album based on this concept (well, kind of - I’m talking about the Who Sell Out)), but I feel like song placement really took off with Grey’s Anatomy.  Or maybe that was only with smaller / indie artists.

It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.  And there’s no better time than now to do it.  Canary’s body of work is still small, but it’s growing.  Alex and I wrote a song today, and between the two of us we have four completed songs and about 30 ideas.  So we’ll have more songs real soon.

I imagine licensing is a slow process that involves a lot followups and phone calls.  But that’s okay.  I can followup.  I can answer my phone.  Brian (yes, same Brian - Brian Packer) said if anyone can do it, it’s me.  I like to think he’s right.
