Writer's Block - I Don't Buy It
My aunt pointed out that the date is not shown on with this theme. And since I started it on the first, that’s the date.

This post was going to actually be published on January 1st, but I couldn’t figure out what to write today. So then I thought, why not write about writer’s block.
In Seth Godin’s new book the Icarus Deception, he talks about how writer’s block is a relatively new phenomenon. It only started to exist when pressure was put on writers. I’m paraphrasing because I can’t remember exactly where in the book it is, despite my 11 pages of notes on it.
I hear so many songwriters I know complain about writer’s block. I don’t buy it. The only way to cure writer’s block is to write. Yeah, it might not be great, but if you’re in anticipation of something great every single time you sit down with a pen and and an instrument, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
You never know what you’re going to get when you sit down to write. I certainly don’t. I know what I would like to get, and I often have a theme or a topic at the ready, but sometimes I surprise myself. Simply by going for it. Sometimes the muse strikes at the exact moment I pick up my guitar, and sometimes it doesn’t.
I don’t buy writer’s block, and you don’t have to either. All you have to do is write something. Anything.
That being said, before I go to bed, I’m going to write.
