What I’m Doing Now

Updated May 1, 2024, from my home in Massachusetts, USA.

Staying off Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter until February 23, 2025

I signed a contract with myself and had my partner sign it as a witness. I wasn’t receiving any value from those platforms - especially Instagram and Facebook - and with my master’s program coming up, I want to make sure my ability to focus is stronger than ever.

I need a break from that part of the Internet. I’ve been on social media in some capacity since 2003 or 2004. And it finally got to a point where I got fed up with it. I’m active on YouTube and LinkedIn.

Preparing for my master’s program that starts in September

I decided to get my master’s of music to develop even further as a musician and an educator. I’ll be starting at Longy School of Music this fall. It’s a two-year program and I’m wicked excited about it! I’ve been studying with the department chair, Eric Hofbauer, for almost a year and my ears, hands, and feel have increased 10-fold. I’ve been listening to and loving jazz in earnest for the first time in my life. Wild stuff!

Getting my motorcycle up and running again

My beloved Black Widow’s battery died last week. She needs some TLC, some that I can give her and some that she’ll have to go to Madhouse Motors for.

Training for my Spartan Stadion 5K in June

I do these for fun. I did the one at Fenway last year and this year I’m testing my mettle at Citi Field in June. And again at Fenway in November. My main focus is not to have a slower time than I did at Fenway. I was training more regularly last year than I have been, but I’m back on my game now. All I can do is put in the effort now and see what happens in seven weeks at the event.

Taking care of myself in a difficult time

My dad passed away on March 15, 2024 after suffering from dementia for well over three years. It’s been hard to say the least. My dad was so good and I miss him so much. I have some easy days and some hard days. But I’m showing myself grace by letting my emotions come and go as needed. It’s been a ride.

Teaching a bunch of guitar lessons

I’ve got a pretty loaded roster of students right now. But I have room for a few more if you’re interested!

Writing on Medium

I signed up for The Writers League, and my writing goal is to write two posts per week on Medium following the methods Ayo teaches. (They work.)

Cheers,
Amy
